Job Purpose
Provides day to day safety surveillance by identifying hazards and recommends remedial action to ensure safe operational efficiency to achieve accepted level of safety.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Carries out daily inspections of aircraft movement areas in accordance with airfield inspection checklist and when there is bad weather.
• Carries out night inspections on the airfield for airfield lighting adequacy and recommended signage.
• Verifies aerodrome physical characteristics and advise SASO.
• Carries out surveillance for obstacles on and around the airfield obstacle free zone and recommend for removal.
• Conducts surveillance of bird and wildlife activity at the airport and immediately advises and recommends effective control or reduction measures to the Senior Airside Safety Officer.
• Carries out weekly perimeter fence inspections to determine the current status of the barrier.
Ramp Safety Compliancy
• Carries out daily surveillance and serviceability inspection on airport ground service equipment and facilities.
• Inspects airside drivers/ equipment operator’s licenses for validity and currency.
• Enforces airside safety regulations and procedures on movement of personnel and equipment on the airfield to prevent runway and taxiway incursions.
Airside accidents/ Incidents
• Responds to airside accident/ incident calls and conducts preliminary investigations and come up with recommendations.
• In the event of an aircraft accident, check for damage extent and monitor the removal
Terminal building safety inspection
• Inspects check-in scales for valid calibration and compliance with aircraft weight and balance requirements.
• Inspects terminal building, lift devices, carousels etc. for safety compliance.
Safety Promotion
• Conducts on spot safety briefings with airside workers to cultivate a safety culture.
• Identifies safety training needs for airside personnel and make recommendations.
• Assist in providing airside safety awareness training when required.
Qualifications and experience
• Aerodrome Inspection/Certification
• Airside Inspection and Maintenance
• Apron Safety and Operations
• Wildlife Hazard Management
• Global Reporting Format
• Clean Class 2 Driver’s License
• Defensive driving certificate
Competencies & Skills
• Working knowledge of Airside Safety Regulations
• A valid Class 2 driver’s licence
• Sound knowledge of relevant ICAO SARPS
• Computer literacy
• Knowledge of airport operations
